Tesla launches six-seat Model Y L in China — what Aussie owners should know

Longer-wheelbase ‘Model Y L’ starts at ¥339,000 (~AU$73,200) with six seats and a CLTC-rated 751 km range; China-only for now.

Tesla unveils six-seat Model Y L in China

Tesla has officially launched the Model Y L — a longer, six-seat version of the Model Y — in China, priced from ¥339,000 (about AU$73,200). Rated at up to 751 km on the CLTC cycle, the Model Y L focuses on extra cabin space and a proper third row for families. Deliveries in China are expected to begin soon. This variant has not been announced for Australia at the time of writing.

We confirm launch pricing and CLTC range, while multiple outlets note China-market availability first and a longer wheelbase for improved third-row comfort.

Key highlights

  • Six-seat layout (2+2+2) with a dedicated third row.
  • Starting price: ¥339,000 (approx. AU$73,200).
  • Quoted range: up to 751 km on CLTC (typically higher than WLTP/EPA figures).
  • Longer wheelbase and body than the standard five-seat Model Y.
  • China launch first; no Australia release details yet.

What this means for Australian owners

For now, the Model Y L is a China-only release. If Tesla brings this variant to our market, expect some differences in trim and certification versus current Aussie-new Model Y vehicles. Until then, most interior and exterior accessories for Australian Model Y (including 2025–2026 updates) remain focused on five-seat cars.

We’ll update product compatibility if a six-seat Aussie version is confirmed.
